The amphitheatre above Lake Czos in Mrągowo is one of Poland's best-known open-air stages, and Polish Cabaret Night is the second of the two big cabaret events of the Masurian season. In 2026 it falls on Saturday 1 August at 19:00. The format matches July's Cabaret Night: a dozen or more groups in a single evening, broadcast on television. It is about 75 km from Poza Zgiełkiem.
What the event is and what to expect
Polish Cabaret Night is a collective format: instead of a single act, a dozen or more groups appear, each with a short set. The evening runs for several hours and is recorded for television, which means technical breaks and requests for audience reactions. The Lake Czos amphitheatre seats several thousand on tiered stands overlooking the water – the same stage that has hosted the Country Picnic for decades. Tickets are sold through kabaretowebilety.pl; for the August edition it is worth buying early, as seats go quickly at the height of the season.
Where to sleep – why staying further out helps
This is the key planning point. On the night of a big cabaret event the area around Mrągowo itself is heavily booked: rooms sold out well in advance, prices raised, and traffic in town at a standstill afterwards. For a single evening it is perfectly feasible to drive back towards Węgorzewo – 75 km, roughly an hour and a quarter via Giżycko. You return to a quiet house rather than a packed resort. What to combine with the trip to Mrągowo
Since you are driving 75 km south anyway, set off early and see something on the way. Mikołajki is 20 km from Mrągowo and a natural lunch stop. The route runs through Giżycko, where you can look in at the Boyen Fortress or watch the rotating bridge. The same day, Węgorzewo is holding the 49th Folklore Fair – you could start the day at the fair and end it at the cabaret. A little later in the same week come Operation Boyen and the Ryn medieval festival.
A tip
Leave with time in hand – several thousand people pour out of the amphitheatre at once and getting out of Mrągowo can take an hour. Take something warm: August evenings by the water get cold, and the show finishes late.
