August in Masuria has a rhythm of its own: the days are still long, the water warm, and the events increasingly spectacular. It is also a good moment for a single-day charter – set out in the morning, catch one particular event, and be back in port by evening. Below are the key dates for August 2026, confirmed with the organisers, and a note on how to combine them without driving half the region every day.
The "Masuria" Festival of Medieval Culture in Ryn – 7–9 August
Three days of knightly tournaments, historical parades, staged battles and workshops in old crafts within the walls of one of the region's finest castles. The programme includes sword-and-shield combat and buhurts, displays of horseback acrobatics and falconry, a concert of early music, a fire show, archery and axe-throwing lessons, and a merchants' and craftsmen's row. The event spreads across the castle, the town amphitheatre by the lake and the eco-marina. Ryn sits on Lake Ryńskie, on the route of many cruises, so it is easy to work into a week on the water.
Giżycko AirShow – 22 August
The fourth edition of the Giżycko air display takes place on 22 August 2026, from 18:00 to 23:00. Lake Niegocin is the stage for aircraft, powered paragliders and gliders, with the audience watching from the town beach and pier. The display is accompanied by pyrotechnics, music and a headline concert. Entry is free. The best spot, though, is not on the beach but on the water – drop anchor in the middle of the lake and watch the sky from the front row. The first August weekend and the farewell to summer
August opens with two big things on the same day: 1–2 August brings the 49th International Folklore Fair in Węgorzewo, while the evening of 1 August has Polish Cabaret Night in Mrągowo. A week later, 7–9 August, Ryn overlaps with Operation Boyen in Giżycko and jazz in Gołdap. The turn of August and September is the season of farewells to summer – many Masurian towns see the season out with concerts, runs and open-air events, but the exact 2026 dates are often announced late, so check the programme with the local tourist information before you travel.
Where to stay in August
August is peak season, and in the towns hosting the big events accommodation disappears well in advance. Our experience is that it is easiest to stay outside the centre of things and drive in: from the Węgorzewo area it is 22 km to Giżycko, about 50 to Ryn, 55 to Gołdap and 75 to Mrągowo. A tip
The weekend of 7–9 August is the busiest in the calendar: Ryn, Giżycko and Gołdap all at once. If you are staying then, book early and pick one event per day – trying to catch them all turns the holiday into a driving trip.
