Three Greek actors – Coryphaeus, Narcissus and Jokocles – are convinced after a long sea wandering that they have made it home. Instead of olive groves they find modern sailing boats and hear a strange, rustling language. It is the work of an angry Poseidon, who has moved them to Masuria. So begins "Greek Myths in the Land of the Great Lakes", a family open-air show by the Ambasada Kultury Foundation, playing at Nowy Sztynort on 28 July 2026 at 17:00, 8 km from us.
Poseidon's anger and the Masurian reeds
To atone and find their way back to their own time, the heroes must face tasks drawn from the major Greek myths of fate, journey and courage. The writer, Sandra Szwarc, says plainly that the aim was a light, humorous take on myths that remain good adventure stories however much time has passed – and a family audience, both residents and summer visitors to the region. The show combines classic open-air theatre, mythology and live music.
Cast and live music
The performers are Łukasz Gosławski, Krzysztof Brzazgoń and Amin Bensalem. Music and rhythm come from the beatboxer and performer Marcin "Zorak" Szymański – pairing ancient mythology with beatbox sounds surprising, but it is exactly what gives the show its pace. Direction and stage movement are by Sandra Stencel, an actress and choreographer behind the "Miracle Dance" project. The organiser is the Ambasada Kultury Foundation, and the project was funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage through the Culture Promotion Fund. Admission to all performances is free.
The Great Lakes tour and the Sztynort date
The show tours seven towns across the Great Masurian Lakes: 16 July Ryn (amphitheatre by Lake Ryńskie), 18 July Wierzba (Port Wierzba), 20 July Ruciane-Nida (town beach), 22 July Mikołajki (the boulevards), 25 July Wilkasy (amphitheatre), 26 July Giżycko (Ekomarina) and 28 July Sztynort (Nowy Sztynort). The last of these matters most to us – Tuesday 28 July at 17:00 in Sztynort, 8 km from the house. It is the only performance in this part of Masuria, so if you are staying with us in late July there is no need to travel far. Two days earlier, on 26 July, the palace gardens hosted Ahasverus: The Wanderer from Steinort as part of the STN:ORT Festival.
A tip
17:00 is unusually early for an outdoor show – good news for families with younger children. Bring a blanket or folding chairs; the audience area is open ground with no fixed seating.
