Masuria with Children – Why It's the Ideal Family Destination

Masuria is one of Poland's best family destinations. No mountains (meaning no dangerous trails for small children), flat terrain ideal for cycling, lakes with gentle beaches and clean air – these are natural conditions perfect for families with children of all ages. Poza Zgiełkiem with its own garden and direct access to forests is the ideal base for all Masurian attractions.

Attractions for children near Poza Zgiełkiem

Lake Rydzówka (2 km from Poza Zgiełkiem) is a quiet lake with a nice sandy beach – ideal for the youngest children; swimming is possible. Mamerki bunkers (3 km) fascinate older children – real underground corridors and WWII history. Steinort Palace in Sztynort (8 km) with its heron colony is an open-air natural zoo – children are delighted. Draisine cycling on old railway tracks in the area – a unique attraction for children and adults, available in Węgorzewo. The forests around Stawki offer safe, unmarked paths to explore – perfect for collecting pine cones, watching squirrels and insects. Evening bonfire in Poza Zgiełkiem's garden with sausage roasting is every child's favourite programme point.

Safe beaches and bathing spots for the youngest

Around Węgorzewo and Sztynort there are several wild beaches on lakes where the depth increases very gradually – ideal for children. Lake Rydzówka (2 km from Poza Zgiełkiem) has a nice sandy beach and is quiet – the feeling of a private beach; swimming is possible. Lake Mamry (2 km from Poza Zgiełkiem) has sections with shallow sandbars near Sztynort marina – swimming possible. The town bathing area in Węgorzewo (10 km) is supervised in season – an option for those who want a lifeguard. The only caveat is a possible cyanobacteria bloom in August during warm temperatures – check WIOŚ bulletins.

Poza Zgiełkiem – the ideal base for a family holiday

The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms – ideal for a large group. You can book the whole property or individual rooms like a guesthouse. Breakfast is available as an option. The garden with a bonfire spot and BBQ gives children space to play outdoors. Bernard and Dorota, the property owners, have experience welcoming families with children and are happy to suggest the best routes, swimming spots and child-friendly restaurants. The house has antique furniture and artworks – at the same time it is a real home, not a hotel, so you feel like you are staying with family. Safe bike storage at the house (including children's bikes). Ask about current prices and availability – book via Booking.com or contact directly.

Tip for families with young children

In July and August pack SPF 50+ sunscreen, mosquito repellent and tick repellent for children. Masurian forests are wonderful but ticks are active all season. You can buy repellents at the pharmacy in Węgorzewo. Masuria is also great [[with dogs|mazury-z-psem]]. Kids love the quirky [[Scibory Republic|republika-scibory]] (28 km) and the dramatic viaducts at [[Stańczyki|stanczyki]] (68 km).
