Masuria in Summer – Everything to Know Before You Go

Summer in Masuria is the most beautiful season – warm lakes, long days, sailing winds and the idyllic atmosphere of Masurian villages. Poza Zgiełkiem, 2 km from Lake Mamry and surrounded by forests, is an excellent base for a summer holiday for families, couples and groups of friends. July and August are peak season – booking accommodation in advance is essential.

When to visit Masuria in summer?

The Masurian summer season runs from mid-June to the end of August, peaking in July. Air temperatures reach 22–28°C, lake water warms to 20–24°C in the second half of July. June is the golden month for those who prefer peace – warmer than spring, significantly fewer tourists than in July. August brings the longest and warmest evenings – perfect for bonfires and sailing. In September the "golden Masurian summer" begins – lower prices, empty lakes, crystal-clear air. If you can, avoid the two weeks in August (approx. 5–20 August) – the absolute peak when prices and crowds reach their maximum.

What to do in Masuria in summer?

Sailing and kayaking are the absolute kings of Masurian summer – Lake Mamry, 2 km from Poza Zgiełkiem, is one of Poland's most beautiful sailing venues, with a nice beach where swimming is possible. Cycling: hundreds of kilometres of marked routes along lakes, through forests and villages – EuroVelo 11 runs through Węgorzewo. Swimming: Lake Rydzówka (2 km from Poza Zgiełkiem) with a sandy beach, wild beaches on Mamry shores, the town bathing area in Węgorzewo. Evenings: a bonfire in Poza Zgiełkiem's garden with a view of the Masurian sky is the experience guests remember longest. Day trips: Wolf's Lair (17 km), Mamerki (3 km), Steinort Palace with concerts (8 km). Mushroom picking: from mid-August the forests around Stawki are full of porcini and bay boletes.

Book Poza Zgiełkiem for July or August at least 2–3 months in advance.
