Masuria, formerly East Prussia, is a land with a rich and complex history. Around Węgorzewo (formerly Angerburg), numerous traces of those times can still be found today.
Sztynort Palace and the Lehndorff family
The Lehndorff Palace is one of the most important sites of Prussian heritage. This is where the aristocracy met, and from here came Heinrich von Lehndorff, a participant in the July 20, 1944, assassination attempt on Hitler.
Teutonic Castle in Węgorzewo
Built in the 14th century on the Węgorapa river, the castle was a key monastic fortification. Destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, it stands today as a reminder of the medieval origins of the settlement.
