Mieduniszki was a typical representative of the Masurian landed estates that shaped the face of the region for centuries. Prussian landowners – the Junkers – managed these properties, building manors, establishing parks and creating local cultural centres. After 1945, when Masuria returned to Poland, most manors fell into neglect or were taken over by state farms. The history of Mieduniszki fits into this broader fate of Masurian cultural heritage – places still waiting to be discovered and saved.
The Manor Park and Old-Growth Trees
Around the manor spreads an old landscape park – one of the most valuable elements of Masurian natural heritage. Here grow mighty specimens of pedunculate oak, small-leaved lime and maple, often 200–300 years old. Old alleys and park paths lead through the shade of tree canopies, and in the undergrowth anemones and lily of the valley bloom in spring. The park is home to numerous bird species – woodpeckers, nuthatches and owls. It is a natural botanical museum in the open air.

Mieduniszki is about 6 km from Poza Zgiełkiem, amid Masurian fields and forests. The village can be reached by car via local roads. The area is ideal for cycling trips – routes lead through peaceful villages, along tree-lined roads and through fields with views of Masurian forests. It is worth combining a visit to Mieduniszki with a trip to nearby attractions – lakes, nature reserves or other manors and castles in the region.

It is most beautiful here in spring when fruit trees and woodland floor plants come into bloom. Bring a camera – the old park and manor offer extraordinary compositions at any time of year. Entry to the park grounds is free.
